Call for help gets the at-tent-ion of a local funeral director
A Hampshire Scout group will be sheltered from the rain this winter thanks to a donation from a Basingstoke funeral director.
A Mongers Funeral Directors, in Sherborne St John, received a call for help earlier this year from Tadley Scout Group.
The Scout group, which helps to get young people outdoors and doing more outdoor activities, was in need of some new tents.
Lauren Purnell, Funeral Co-ordinator at the branch in The Old Forge, said: “Getting out and about is so important for all age groups. Scout groups enable this to start at a young age and also gain confidence.
“We were delighted to donate £500 to the local youngsters and hope they make use of them for many years to come.”
Scouts Groups are traditionally for children aged 10½ to 14 years before they become an Explorer.
They encourage children to jump in and get muddy – ignore the butterflies and go for it.
Amey Savill, Fundraiser Tadley Scout Group, said: “On behalf of Tadley Scout group we would like to say a huge thank you for your very generous donation! We were able to purchase three new tents, two double gas cookers and a lantern.
“Our group plays an important role in the community and we have a wonderful group of volunteers and lots of children who really do gain so much from Scouting.
“We are constantly in need of equipment and are often holding fundraising events to raise vital funds for the group. Our next event is our annual Xmas Bazaar on 23rd November.
“So when we are lucky enough to receive donations from companies like A Mongers Funeral Directors it really does make a significant difference. The tents we were able to buy were desperately needed as our old ones have really come to the end of their life after nearly 20 years of use!”
